The Curriculum Research & Development Center in Health Allied Education was founded in May, 1991 at National Taipei College of Nursing. It is aimed to take charge of the curriculum development of the medical, nursing schools consisting three levels—colleges of technology, junior colleges, and senior high professional schools throughout Taiwan. In this way, it can sponsor the production of medical professionals to improve the medical and nursing quality, enhancing the national development and satisfying the need of the present society. In recent years, due to the increasing interaction between Taiwan and the whole globe, based upon the educational policies of the Ministry of Education, this center has assisted in the common core medical and nursing curriculum, school-based curriculum, and the planning, counseling, and direction of newly-established departments. In addition, this center has progressively engaged and assisted in the future development of students, the further education of the core-curriculum staff, and the integration with the international community. And because of the rapid development of professional skills, knowledge as well as the massive change of the human power market in these years, a few schools have got to establish new departments, or be transformed into five-year colleges, technological colleges, technological universities, and the like. Judging from the freshly emerging needs of school facilities, curriculum design, faculty cultivation, and students’ prospective development, the center does its best to provide all levels of schools with related information concerning planning, counseling and evaluation.

The center is currently located on the third floor of Tsin-zen Building of National Taipei College of Nursing and it consists of eight main functions: 1. Collecting, compiling, editing, translating, publishing, and distributing the significant documents at home and abroad. 2. Analyzing the practicing abilities of medical and nursing professions 3. Sorting out the evaluation criterion of medical and nursing curriculum 4. experimenting and evaluating the new medical and nursing curriculum 5. publishing, explaining, and promoting fresh medical and nursing curriculum 6. providing counseling and assisting in the implementation of new curriculum 7. editing and promoting medical and nursing textbooks and teaching media which are rare 8. helping with whatever relating to medical and nursing curriculum and teaching media. The advisers of the centers include scholars and experts at home and abroad. The former coordinator was former president, Lin Saw-hei; the coordinator of today is President Zon Liu-ling; the current director is Dr. Hsu Man-ying. Director Hsu is in charge of all business; Executive Secretary, Lin Pay-fan is responsible for practicing and promoting the business, while Dr. Lin Chi-yun of promotion & service section and Chan San-yin of Information Promotion Section help with planning. Besides, two assistants, Mr. Chen Hsin-hung and Ms Wang Sian-la engage in helping transact all the business.

In recent five years, based on the policies of the Ministry of Education, the center has focused on: 1. promoting and coordinating the planning of all-level common core medical and nursing curriculum 2. planning of all-level technical and professional curriculum such as the curriculum of medical and nursing graduate schools, the curriculum of the Graduate Institute of Integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine with Western Nursing, the curriculum of Department of Optometry, the curriculum of the department of physical therapy, the curriculum of the department of occupational therapy, and the medical and nursing curriculum in senior high schools. 3. censoring rare medical and nursing textbooks of vocational senior high schools. 4. being in charge of advancing the exam questions of medical and nursing curriculum 5. researching teachers’teaching abilities and academically producing capabilities. 6. counseling and coordinating in planning and developing technology-based simulacrum curriculum 7. developing the teachers’ teaching abilities in medical and nursing common core curriculum 8. constructing complete simulacrum working places and creating simulacrum curriculum for engaging in profession 9. electronic newspaper of the center 10. censoring the curriculum of newly-established departments or graduate institutes.
