On the Spiral Interaction of Laozi’s “Two Producing Three”
--Engaging in Corresponding and Integrated Observation by the Double Spiral System of “Zero, One, Two, Many”
Retired Professor at Chinese Department of National Taiwan Normal University, Chen Man-ming
Abstract: In recent years there have been many discussions about the meaning interpretation and textual logic of Laozi’s “two producing three.” However, there has not been any discussion in the form of a special topic about its spiral interaction. Therefore, on this axis, this paper defines “two” as ying-yang, and “three” as “interaction”(transposition, displacement, subsumption, contrast, and mingling). And upwards, “Dao produces one;” downwards, “three creates all creatures.” I engage in corresponding and an integrated observation by a double spiral system of “zero, one, two, many,” (philosophical), and “DNA”(scientific). In this way, we can see the operating contents of the spiral interaction of “two producing three,” and its vital position in the double spiral system of “zero, one, two, many.”
Key Words: Laozi’s “two producing three,” spiral interaction, a double spiral system of “zero, one, two, many,” and “DNA”
